EFTSL (Equivalent Full time Student Load)

EFTSL (formerly known as EFTSU) is a measurement of student load or student workload. The EFTSL value assigned to a unit taken in a course represents the workload in the unit as a proportion of the standard annual workload normally undertaken by a full-time student in that course. These calculations are normally based on the credit point values for coursework degrees. Therefore, a 6 point unit taken in a course for which 48 points constitutes a standard annual workload would be assigned 6/48 = 0.12500 EFTSL. The same unit taken in a degree with 50 points in a standard year would be assigned 6/50 = 0.12000 EFTSL.

Commonwealth Supported Students

UWA Band/Student Contribution Bands
The minimum student contribution bands are set by the Australian Government. All units are classified to bands according to their subject matter (discipline group). The following table shows the cost of one EFTSL at UWA in 2011.

Australian Non-Award Students

From 2009 The University of Western Australia has not offered undergraduate courses on a fee paying basis to Australian and New Zealand students and holders of a permanent visa. However, tuition fees still apply to students enrolled in Non-Award courses, and are charged on a per unit basis. The cost of each unit depends on its EFTSL value and the cost cluster to which the unit is classified. Therefore, the cost of a unit is the EFTSL multiplied by the cluster amount, as follows:
